Description
I could not begin to guess the nationality of this coin. Pirates raided ships from many nations, and as coins were valued by the weight of their precious metal, not the coin itself, thus it could be from anywhere. Coins of that era were left in circulation for many years, thus are mostly found in low grades, but not this coin. About the size of US dime coin. These coins were hand hammered, on whichever silver blanks they had on hand, so coins were of various thickness, featured clipped planchets, off center strikes, heavy or slight strikes, splits and cracks and many other defects. Each coin is different. This coin received a heavy strike helping it retain a lot of detail even after many years in circulation and several hundred years buried in the soil, but also produced very evident rough edges from very crude minting practices. EXCELLENT COIN # 201 - B
